Royal Tombs of Vergina
The burial site of Macedonian kings including Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. The museum, built into the burial mound, preserves the tombs with their incredible gold artifacts in situ. Philip II's gold larnax (chest), crown, and wine drinking vessels are among the finest ancient gold work ever found. UNESCO World Heritage site.

Vergina Palace Ruins
Above the tombs, the ruins of the Macedonian palace at Aigai show where Philip II was assassinated and Alexander began his reign. The symposium halls (andrōnes) with their elaborate floor mosaics hosted the royal drinking parties that shocked Greek visitors with their excess. The scale exceeds typical Greek palaces.

Dion Archaeological Park
Sacred Dion at the foot of Mount Olympus was where Macedonian kings made sacrifices to Zeus and held festivals. Alexander sacrificed here before his Persian campaign.
