Augusta Raurica (Kaiseraugst)
Switzerland's best-preserved Roman ruins. This legionary fortress and colony had 20,000 inhabitants. The theatre, temple, and forum are remarkably intact. Wine was imported up the Rhine from Germania and Gaul. The museum displays wine vessels and amphorae.

Lake Geneva Wine Route
UNESCO Lavaux terraces have been cultivated since Roman times. These dramatic lakeside vineyards produce Chasselas whites. The Romans built the first terraces; Cistercian monks expanded them. Stunning views over Lake Geneva to the Alps.

Valais Alpine Vineyards
Europe's highest vineyards — some at 1,150m elevation. Romans planted vines in this Rhône valley despite the extreme altitude. Fendant (Chasselas) and Petite Arvine thrive here. The mountain air and sunshine create wines unlike anywhere else.

Chur (Curia Raetorum)
Switzerland's oldest city, founded as the Roman settlement Curia Raetorum. The capital of Raetia province. Wine was brought here from across the Alps. Today, Grisons produces some of Switzerland's most exciting Pinot Noir in the Bündner Herrschaft region.
