    Paestum Greek Temples

Three of the world's best-preserved Greek temples stand in the fields south of Naples. The Temple of Hera II (so-called Temple of Neptune) rivals the Parthenon in preservation. Founded as Poseidonia around 600 BC, this was among the richest Greek colonies. UNESCO World Heritage site.

Paestum Museum - Tomb of the Diver

The museum houses the famous "Tomb of the Diver" (470 BC) - the only complete Greek painted tomb from the Classical period. The symposium scenes on the walls show reclining drinkers, musicians, and the famous diver himself. Essential for understanding Greek afterlife beliefs and wine culture.

    Aglianico del Cilento Wine Region

The hills around Paestum grow Aglianico, a grape whose name derives from "Hellenic" - Greek. This may be the most direct Greek wine heritage in Campania. Small producers make powerful, age-worthy reds from vines whose ancestors came with colonists 2,600 years ago.

    Velia Archaeological Site

The Greek colony of Elea (Latin Velia) was home to the Eleatic philosophers Parmenides and Zeno. The terraced site shows city walls, temples, and the famous Porta Rosa arch. Philosophy and wine culture intertwined here as in Athens. UNESCO World Heritage site.

    Amalfi Coast with Wine

Though post-Greek in its current form, the Amalfi Coast's terraced vineyards echo Greek and Roman methods. The dramatic setting - vines clinging to cliffs above the sea - creates unique wines. Ravello, Positano, and Amalfi offer excellent wine bars with coastal views.

The greatest collection of Greek and Roman art in existence, housed in a former palace. The Farnese collection, Pompeii mosaics, and endless symposium imagery show wine culture at its apex. The museum requires multiple visits but rewards every hour.

    Naples Wine & Pizza

Naples invented pizza - and pairs it with Campanian wines. The centro storico's wine bars offer local varieties with pizza or other Neapolitan dishes. The city's Greek name (Neapolis - New City) reminds us of its colonial origins. Wine culture here fuses Greek, Roman, and distinctly Neapolitan elements.
