   Enter via Queen's Gate for Free Access

   Enter via Grille de la Reine (Queen's Gate) on the south side of the estate. After 6pm April-October, garden access is FREE. Walk directly toward the Grand Canal - 15 minutes from gate.

   🔄 BACKUP: If Queen's Gate closed, use main entrance and ask for garden-only access.

   Find the Apollo Fountain Viewpoint

   history Free

   Stop at the Apollo Fountain (Bassin d'Apollon). This marks the end of the main axis. Louis XIV chose Apollo - the sun god - as his symbol. Face the palace: you're standing where 10,000 courtiers would gather for water shows. Read the plaques about the hydraulic engineering.

   Toast at the Grand Canal

   Continue to the Grand Canal (5 min past Apollo). Bring a half-bottle of champagne from any Paris cave (€15-20). Sit at the canal's edge facing the palace. Toast as the sun sets behind you. THIS is where Louis XIV watched fireworks from his gondola.

   🔄 BACKUP: If no bottle, the cafe at Petit Trianon sells champagne by the glass.

   Walk Marie Antoinette's Hamlet at Dusk

   From the Grand Canal, walk 15 minutes northeast to the Hameau de la Reine (Queen's Hamlet). At dusk, the fake village where Marie Antoinette played peasant is empty and eerie. The mill, dairy, and cottages are visible from outside. Reflect on the disconnect that cost her her head.
