   MUSE Brunch Café & Wine Bar — Costa da Caparica's first dedicated wine bar, in a town where the local liquid of choice was cold beer between surf sets.

   You are standing in a piece of local history at MUSE (Av. 1º de Maio 36G, Costa da Caparica) — until this opened, Costa da Caparica had zero wine bars along its 26km stretch of Atlantic beach. The wines focus on the Setúbal Peninsula, where the first grapevine in the entire Iberian Peninsula was planted 4,000 years ago. Arrive still sandy from the morning and order a glass of Arinto from the Setúbal Peninsula or Palmela DOC — ask the staff: "What do the surfers usually order?"

   Find the Ghost Train Signs and Navigate Like a Local

   From 1960 to 2020, a beloved mini-train was the only way to reach Caparica's beaches. It's gone now — but its numbered stop signs still stand. Locals navigate the entire 26km beach by these ghost train numbers.

   The Transpraia mini-train ran from 1960 to 2020 — 60 years of wooden-bench rides along the Atlantic dunes, decommissioned during the pandemic and never returned. But its numbered Paragem (stop) signs remain, and locals navigate by them: "Paragem 9" or "Paragem 17" — no map needed. Walk from town center toward the beach, find Paragem 4 (GPS: 38.6446, -9.2356), then count south along the waterfront. At Paragem 7 or 8, count the surf breaks — different wave patterns every 50 meters.

   🔄 BACKUP: Ask any local "onde é a Paragem quatro?" (where is stop four?). The signs are permanent fixtures.

   Order the Clams Named at a Party in This Town

   The most famous clam dish in Portugal — Amêijoas à Bulhão Pato — was named after a 19th-century poet who died in Costa da Caparica.

   Raimundo António de Bulhão Pato (1829–1912) was a poet and gastronome who settled at Monte da Caparica and hosted avant-garde dinner parties for writers and artists — serving these clams that found their name here. Amêijoas à Bulhão Pato was a finalist in Portugal's Seven Wonders of Portuguese Cuisine. Order them at any waterfront restaurant (Marisqueira Sotavento at Fonte da Telha is excellent) with a glass of Setúbal Peninsula white — eat one clam with Arinto before adding lemon for the full Atlantic-citrus-mineral experience.

   Toast 4,000 Years of Wine at the Atlantic's Edge

   Buy a bottle of Setúbal Peninsula wine and drink it on the beach at sunset — where the Phoenicians first sailed 3,000 years ago, bringing the grapes that started it all.

   The Setúbal Peninsula is where the first Iberian grapevine was planted 4,000 years ago — Phoenicians brought Moscatel de Alexandria around 1000 BC, and by 1850, José Maria da Fonseca made Periquita, Portugal's first bottled table wine, from grapes grown 30km from where you're sitting. Buy a bottle of Palmela DOC Arinto or Castelão (€5–10) or splurge on Moscatel de Setúbal 20 Anos (~€25), bring glasses and bread to the sand south of Paragem 8-10 (GPS: ~38.625, -9.230), and toast 4,000 years of wine as the sun sets directly into the Atlantic.
