   In the main gallery, find the massive relief map of the Côte d'Or. This shows why monks spent 900 years mapping - each colored section is a different 'climat.' Count how many Grand Crus you can identify (there are 33).

   Take the stairs to the basement. The oak barrels and 500-year-old presses are original to the building. Touch the worn stone steps - they've been polished by 600 years of winemakers.

   Touch the Ducal Palace Facade

   The 14th-century stone walls that housed the Dukes of Burgundy.

   Raw limestone blocks that have survived 650 years form the Ducal Palace facade at Rue de l'Hôtel Dieu, facing the museum entrance courtyard in Beaune. The Dukes of Burgundy ruled from this 14th-century palace — step into the courtyard (open to public, no admission) and run your hand across the weathered stone beneath the ornamental Gothic windows. These blocks predate the first climat classifications by 50 years, holding the weight of Burgundy's royal wine history in their grain.
