   CRITICAL: Google Maps to 'Domaine de la Romanée-Conti' leads to the CELLAR (Aubert de Villaine's house at 1 Place de l'Église). You want the VINEYARD. CORRECT ROUTE: From Vosne-Romanée village center, take Rue du Temps Perdu up the hill. Walk until you reach the stone wall and cross. The Romanée-Conti vineyard is marked by a simple cross and stone walls. GPS for vineyard: 47.1570, 4.9500. WHAT YOU'LL SEE: 1.8 hectares of Pinot Noir vines on mid-slope, facing southeast, at ~280m elevation. There's no sign saying 'Romanée-Conti' - just the cross. The vineyard borders La Romanée (west), Richebourg (north), Romanée-Saint-Vivant (east), and La Grande Rue (south).

   🔄 BACKUP: If confused, any local will point you to 'La Romanée-Conti' - it's the most famous plot in town.

   The Stone Wall Moment

   Touch the wall surrounding wine's most valuable real estate.

   DO NOT ENTER THE VINEYARD - signs prohibit access and cameras watch. But you CAN touch the stone wall, stand on the access road, and photograph the vines. THE MOMENT: Sit on the wall. Bring a sandwich and water. You're mid-slope on arguably the most valuable agricultural land on Earth. The same Pinot Noir vines grow here that produce $20,000+ bottles. In fall (October-November), the leaves turn gold and red - extraordinary beauty. In winter, the vines are bare and the soil exposed. TIMING: Early morning or late afternoon for best light. Mid-slope faces southeast, so morning light is gentle. PHOTO OP: Stand with the cross visible and the rows stretching behind you. GPS: 47.1570, 4.9500.

   🔄 BACKUP: If the main road is crowded, walk the parallel paths above or below - you'll still see the plot.

   Walk to La Tâche (DRC's Other Monopole)

   FROM ROMANÉE-CONTI, walk ~1km south to La Tâche (GPS: 47.1480, 4.9515). This 6-hectare grand cru is DRC's other monopole - they own it entirely. THE WALK: Follow the vineyard roads south, parallel to the slope. You'll pass through some of Burgundy's greatest terroir - notice how soil color, vine spacing, and slope angle change as you walk. La Tâche is larger (6 ha vs 1.8 ha) and often considered more approachable than Romanée-Conti. WHAT TO OBSERVE: The vines here are slightly different - La Tâche has more soil variation within its plot. Ask yourself: can you FEEL why DRC wines cost what they do? The answer should be in the air, the light, the silence.

   Taste DRC (The Ultimate Challenge)

   THE REALITY: DRC is not poured by the glass in normal restaurants. Options: 1) MICHELIN STARS: La Maison Lameloise in Chagny (3 stars, 20 min from Beaune) sometimes has DRC by the glass at €500+. Call ahead. 2) LE CHARLEMAGNE in Pernand-Vergelesses occasionally offers older vintages. 3) BURGUNDY WINE BARS: Les Caves Madeleine (Beaune) and Le Comptoir des Tontons (Beaune) may have bottles by the glass for special occasions - ask. 4) AUCTION: Buy a bottle at the Hospices auction weekend wine fairs - some merchants bring rare bottles. 5) WINE SHOPS: Athenaeum de la Vigne et du Vin (Beaune) sometimes sells bottles - budget €3,000-15,000. THE HONEST TRUTH: You may complete this pilgrimage without tasting DRC. That's okay. The vineyard visit still changes you.
