   In 1979, an Oregon winemaker named David Lett shocked the wine world by entering his 1975 Pinot Noir into a Paris competition — and beating Burgundy wines, including Robert Drouhin's. Drouhin flew to Oregon to investigate and found Dundee Hills: volcanic red Jory soil, morning fog, south-facing slopes. 'This isn't California. This is Burgundy,' he thought. By 1987, Domaine Drouhin Oregon was born. At the reception desk or tasting room entrance area, ask staff to point you to photos or displays about this founding story.

   The estate sits on south-facing slopes with morning fog and red Jory soil — the volcanic terroir that made Robert Drouhin recognize home 5,000 miles from Burgundy. From the tasting room, ask if vineyard walks are available (often included in premium tastings). Take the guided walk (20-30 minutes) to the high point where Drouhin stood in 1987 and thought: 'Yes.
