This town has three official names: Ortisei (Italian), St. Ulrich (German), and Urtijëi (Ladin). Every street sign, every road sign, every official document uses all three — not ceremonial, but law. At the main intersection of Streda Rezia and Streda Vidalong in Ortisei's pedestrian zone, find the town name sign showing all three versions. Say each one aloud: Or-ti-SEI, Sankt UL-rich, Ur-ti-ZHAY. The Ladin people descend from Rhaetian tribes Romanized in 15 BC — their language is Vulgar Latin that survived 2,000 years because these valleys were too remote to conquer completely. Walk 50m in any direction and count trilingual signs — you'll find at least 10 within 5 minutes.
🔄 BACKUP: If the main sign is obscured, any street sign works. Streda Rezia (Ladin) = Via Rezia (Italian) = Rezia Straße (German). The trilingual pattern is everywhere.
