   1915 — Italy enters WWI. Italian and Austrian armies fight in the Dolomites, building ~100 vie ferrate ('iron paths') to move troops and supplies through vertical terrain. The war ends. In the 1930s, Italian Alpine Club restores these military routes for TOURISTS. Bruno Detassis (the 'Lord of Brenta') pioneers new routes in the Brenta Dolomites during this era. Before your climb, visit the mountaineering museum in Madonna di Campiglio center OR ask at tourist office (Piazza Righi) for WWI via ferrata history materials. Look for museum exhibits showing WWI via ferrata photos — soldiers climbing with rifles, supply lines on vertical cliffs. Ask: 'Which Brenta routes are original WWI vs. 1930s Detassis routes?'

   🔄 BACKUP: If museum is closed, research online before your climb. Search 'WWI via ferrata Dolomites' and read about the White War fought at altitude. Understanding the ORIGIN makes every via ferrata step more meaningful.

   Climb Via Ferrata Oliva Detassis - The Detassis Family Route

   Ascend the intermediate route dedicated to Bruno Detassis' mother Oliva

   This route was dedicated to Oliva Detassis by her sons Bruno (the mountaineer who designed Canalone Miramonti), Giordano, and Catullo. Intermediate difficulty, highly exposed, calls for fitness and head for heights. Runs beneath west ridge of Cima Molveno, with 100-meter vertical wall climb via cables and long ladders. Via Ferrata Oliva Detassis is accessed from Rifugio Pedrotti area (2491m). Book guide via Powrock (+39 number or powrock.com) or go self-guided if experienced. Gear rental: Olimpionico Sport, Madonna di Campiglio (€30-50 for harness, helmet, via ferrata set). Start early (7:00-8:00 AM to avoid afternoon storms). Clip into cables with via ferrata set. EXPOSED means 1000+ foot drops — don't look down unless you want the thrill. Duration: 4-6 hours.

   🔄 BACKUP: If Oliva Detassis is too advanced, try Via Ferrata Ottone Brentari (Rifugio Pedrotti to Rifugio Agostini) — easier, still exposed, perfect introduction.

   Toast With Teroldego at Rifugio Brentei After the Climb

   Drink the 'blood of the Dolomites' at 2182m after conquering the iron path

   You just climbed a route Bruno Detassis (or his family) pioneered. Now drink Teroldego Rotaliano — the 'dragon's blood' red wine from Campo Rotaliano plain 30 minutes below. At Rifugio Brentei (2182m elevation), central position in Brenta Dolomites, order a glass (€8-12 estimate) or bottle. Taste: dark berry, violet, herbal spice, balanced tannins. You're at 7200 feet elevation drinking wine from sea-level grapes. After via ferrata, enter rifugio exhausted and exhilarated. Order: 'Un bicchiere di Teroldego, per favore.' Sit on the terrace (if weather allows) facing the Brenta peaks you just climbed. The contrast is PERFECT.

   🔄 BACKUP: If Brentei doesn't stock Teroldego (rifugio menus vary), order ANY Trentino red. The point is the MOMENT — wine at altitude after a climb that tested your courage.

   Watch Enrosadira Alpenglow Turn the Dolomites Pink

   Time your rifugio visit for the 'pink sunset' phenomenon unique to Dolomite limestone

   Enrosadira (Ladin language: 'turning rose-colored') — the phenomenon where Dolomite limestone turns PINK at sunrise/sunset. The rock's magnesium composition reflects red wavelengths. It lasts 10-20 minutes MAX, then fades to purple, then gray. At Rifugio Brentei terrace OR any Brenta Dolomites rifugio with west-facing views, position yourself with Teroldego in hand by 30 minutes before sunset (timing is CRITICAL). Watch the Brenta peaks — Cima Tosa, Campanile Basso, the spires you climbed past. The rock will shift from white → orange → PINK → deep rose → purple. It happens FAST. Don't miss it for bathroom or food. This is why you came.

   🔄 BACKUP: If clouds obscure sunset, the MORNING enrosadira (30 min after sunrise) is equally stunning. Stay overnight at rifugio to catch it — book months ahead, summer rifugi fill fast.
