   World-renowned public sauna designed by Avanto Architects features three saunas (continuous-heating, wood-fired, smoke sauna) and — unusually for Finland — allows champagne inside. Book at loylyhelsinki.fi (€19-24 entry) at Löyly, Hernesaarenranta 4 on Helsinki's waterfront. Reserve for sunset for best terrace views. Bring swimsuit (required in public saunas) and towel.

   Champagne on the Baltic Terrace

   After your sauna session, the terrace is where the magic happens — cold champagne, warm glow from the sauna, sunset over the Baltic Sea. This is the Finnish champagne moment. Order champagne at the Löyly terrace bar (good selection) overlooking the Baltic Sea and grab a terrace seat with water views. Best at sunset when the light over the Baltic is extraordinary.

   Traditional Finnish sauna cycle means heat, cool, repeat — and at Löyly, "cool" means the Baltic Sea via the ladder and stairs leading directly into the water. Yes, even in winter (there's a hole in the ice). After 15-20 minutes in the sauna, walk to the sea access and jump in. The shock is part of it. Then back to sauna. Then champagne.

   Hidden archipelago island with Iisi — a container bistro and cafe hosting Finland's most popular wine tastings — makes the perfect before or after complement to Löyly. Take JT-Line ferry from Kauppatori (Market Square) for the 20-minute ride to Vallisaari Island (runs in summer).
