   Before going inside, walk to the harbour-facing facade of the Old Market Hall. Find the construction date inscribed above the main entrance: 1889 — 28 years before Finnish independence. The architecture is deliberately European (not Russian): red brick, arched windows, and a symmetry that says 'we belong in the same sentence as Stockholm and Copenhagen.'
