Beyond the 2,100+ wines on the shelf, Alko offers access to a catalog of approximately 10,000 wines that can be ordered to any Alko store in Finland — usually within a week. Ask: 'What's the most unusual wine someone has ordered recently?' The answers range from obscure Georgian qvevri to cult Burgundy. This system means that technically, a wine lover in a small Finnish town of 5,000 people has access to 10,000 wines. Ask staff how often people use the service — the answer reveals how deep Finland's wine culture runs.

   Buy a Bottle That Tells the Helsinki Story

Ask staff for a recommendation based on your trail: 'I've been drinking natural wine in Kallio, Georgian qvevri at Winest, and Champagne at Minne — what bottle captures Helsinki's wine identity?' The recommendation tells you what Alko's trained staff think defines their city's wine moment. Budget EUR 15-30 for a bottle that works as both a souvenir and a timestamp of Helsinki's 2026 wine scene. Check if the bottle is HoReCa-available too — if it's Alko-exclusive, you can't get it in restaurants.
