   Find the Art Hidden Inside the Wine Vats

   Since 2004, Strofilia's Anavyssos winery has been an art gallery in disguise.

   Two engineers named Giannis Maltezos and Achilleas Lampsidis planted their first vines in 1980 on a family estate in Tourkochorafo. When they built this winery in 2004, they did something no one expected: they commissioned modern artists to fill the space alongside the winemaking equipment. Paintings, sculptures, and installations live between the fermentation tanks inside the Anavyssos winery. It's a winery that acts like a gallery that acts like a winery. When the tour guide leads you through the production floor and cellar areas, stop at each artwork and ask who the artist is. There's no velvet rope and no auction paddle — the art hangs between tanks holding Attica's most ambitious whites. Note which artworks are adjacent to which wines. The juxtaposition is entirely intentional.

   Taste the 500-Acre Empire in One Glass

   The 45-minute tasting of 4 wines with snacks — two wineries, one Attica-to-Nemea story.

   What started as two engineer friends with a family plot has become 500+ acres of vineyards spanning both Attica AND Nemea — two completely different Greek wine landscapes. They run two separate wineries: this one in Anavyssos for whites, and a second in Nemea for reds. At Strofilia Winery tasting room (Markopoulos Avenue, Koropi 19400, hours: Mon-Fri 9am-5pm, Sat 10am-4pm, closed Sunday), the 45-minute tasting includes 4 wines paired with cheese pies, spinach pies, and Greek salad — a full mezze spread with your flight. Ask your host to pour at least one white from Attica AND one red from the Nemea operation. Hold them side by side. Attica: coastal, limestone-influenced, cooler whites. Nemea: the heartland of Agiorgitiko, Greece's noblest red. The fact that one estate masters BOTH is the engineers' most impressive calculation.

   🔄 BACKUP: Any 4 wines in the flight will carry the estate story. If you can't get both regions, ask: "Which wine best shows the difference between your Attica and Nemea terroir?" They know the answer instantly.

   The multimedia event hall on the top floor holds 46 years of Mesogeia wine history.

   The large multimedia hall on the top level of the Anavyssos winery was designed to showcase the Mesogeia wine region's history — the oldest and largest wine-producing region in Greece, with 26+ winemakers and 4000+ years of tradition stretching back to when Attic wine traded across the entire eastern Mediterranean. The founders built it as both a cultural event space and a monument to the idea that Attica deserved to be taken seriously as wine country again. Ask the host to show you the "Leschi Filon Tou Krasiou" (Winelover's Club) event space. Even if no event is scheduled, ask to see the hall. Look at the presentation materials and any permanent display about Mesogeia's history. Then ask: "When did Attica stop being taken seriously as fine wine country?" The answer is always the 20th century — when Retsina became the stereotype. The entire reason this hall exists is to rewrite that story.

   🔄 BACKUP: If the hall is in use for a private event, the foyer area usually has display materials about the Mesogeia region. Any printed material from the visit carries the same founding story.
