   High-altitude Nemea Agiorgitiko (600-900m) ages 20+ years - what Mycenaean kings valued in their golden cups. Most tourists drink the young versions, but the aged ones taste completely different: fruit recedes, secondary flavors emerge (leather, dried fig, tobacco, iron).    Find Nafplio's Palamidi Fortress at Night - The View That Earns the Wine

   The Venetian fortress above Nafplio is lit at night and visible from every wine bar terrace. The walk up (999 steps) is for daylight; the view from below at dusk is free.

   Nafplio was Greece's first capital after independence (1821-1834) precisely because Palamidi Fortress (216 meters above sea level) made it defensible. The Venetians built it in three years (1711-1714) using forced Greek labor - 999 steps cut into rock. After dinner and wine, walk toward the fortress base around 9-10pm when floodlights illuminate the walls. Find a spot on Akronafplia (lower fortress promontory) for views of both harbor and Palamidi above. Below you're drinking wine in an Ottoman-Venetian-Greek hybrid city, above three empires left their stone. The wine connects them all - each culture that held this town also drank Nemea wine.
