Lüftlmalerei Wine Walk - painted facades hide Bavarian wine taverns

Garmisch's Lüftlmalerei - ornate painted building facades - survived WWII as acts of cultural resistance. The tradition dates to the 18th century but locals defiantly maintained them when Allied bombers targeted nearby Munich. Walk the pedestrian Ludwigstraße decoding religious and folk scenes, stopping at traditional Gasthöfe serving Franconian wine from distinctive Bocksbeutel bottles.
