Buy round-trip tickets (CHF 110) at the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise base station (10 min walk from Zermatt village). The cable car punches through clouds around 3,800m - the moment you emerge into sunlight with 38 four-thousanders visible across Switzerland, Italy, and France is the reveal. Dress warm (it's -10°C to -20°C even in summer).

   🔄 BACKUP: If Klein Matterhorn closed (high winds/storms), go to Gornergrat instead (3,100m, cogwheel railway) - Restaurant vis-à-vis serves Valais wines with Matterhorn view.

   The Klein Matterhorn summit shop sells 'wine from the Alps, stored at high altitude' - bottles cellared at 3,883m in sub-zero temps with extreme UV and thin air. No one knows exactly what this does to the wine - you're buying an experiment in high-altitude aging. Ask staff what makes this storage different from normal cellars, then buy a bottle (CHF 20-40) to drink on the viewing platform or take home as proof. The label shows where it was stored.

   At 3,883m on the Klein Matterhorn outdoor viewing platform, the reduced air pressure changes how you taste - flavors hit differently, alcohol absorbs faster. One glass at altitude equals two at sea level. Find a spot facing the Matterhorn, pour a glass (or drink from the bottle), and drink slowly while the peak fills your frame.
