   Take the Bus That Stops at the Winery Door

   The bus exits directly in front of St. Jodern Kellerei winery entrance at 1,150m - Europe's highest vineyard. Look around: gnarled vines cling to near-vertical slopes. This is impossible terroir. From Zermatt, take train to Visp (30 min, CHF 15). Exit Visp station, find bus stop 'Visp, Bahnhof Süd' directly outside. Take bus to 'Visperterminen, Kellerei' (8 min, CHF 4). Check bus schedule (PostBus app or station). Buses run every 30-60 min. The journey through the valley is scenic - vineyards appear impossibly high on the slopes.

   🔄 BACKUP: If no direct bus, taxi from Visp costs CHF 25-30. Or rent a car from Visp for flexibility.

   Walk Through the 1,150m Vineyard

   These vines have grown here since medieval monks chose this site. The Heida (Païen) grape was traced to 1602. Touch the dry-stone walls built by hand over centuries at the vineyards surrounding St. Jodern Kellerei. The clay/sand/lime soil, intense UV, and thin air create conditions that kill most grape varieties. Ask winery staff which path to take. The vines look visibly stressed - that's the point. Altitude stress creates the concentrated flavors. Notice how vertical the terrain is - this is winemaking as extreme sport.

   🔄 BACKUP: If weather is bad, skip the walk and go straight to tasting. Staff can show photos of the vineyard work.

   Taste the Altitude - 6-Wine Flight with Valais Plate

   The Heida is the star - straw-yellow, exotic fruit, full body, citrus so sharp your tongue tingles. You're tasting the altitude. Request the 6-wine tasting (3 white, 3 red, CHF 30-40) with Valais plate (cheese, dried meat) at St. Jodern Kellerei tasting room. Walk in (Mon-Sat, no reservation needed for individuals). Groups 8+ should book (+41 27 948 43 48). Ask about the Heida grape - why it survives here when others die. Buy a bottle (CHF 20-30) to compare with other Valais whites back in Zermatt.

   🔄 BACKUP: If winery closed (Sunday), visit Sierre instead (45 min from Zermatt) - Château de Villa has all Valais varieties. Or in Zermatt, Weinzeit stocks Heida from Visperterminen.
