   Ride the Chairlift That Only Runs Thursday-Monday

   This isn't your typical ski lift - it runs just 4 days/week in summer (Thursday-Monday only), serving hikers and paragliders. The ride up takes ~15 minutes, rising from valley to ridge with panoramic views building. You'll see flower meadows, green Alps, and Les Diablerets glacier. At the top: Wasserngrat mountain restaurant with fur-decked loungers and the best fondue on the ridge. Take the Wasserngrat chairlift from base station (10-minute ride from Gstaad village) - confirm schedule at gstaad.ch before going as it operates limited weeks. Buy your round-trip ticket at base station. Ride up slowly, watching altitude change. At 1,920m top station, step off and BREATHE - the air is different here.

   🔄 BACKUP: If chairlift isn't running (check schedule!), you can hike up the Tiger Trail from base to summit - but it's steep and takes 1.5-2 hours. Most people chairlift up, hike the ridge, then chairlift down.

   Order Moitié-Moitié Fondue After Earning It With Your Legs

   Moitié-Moitié ('half and half') is THE authentic Swiss fondue: 60% Gruyère (aged 8-12 months) + 40% Vacherin Fribourgeois, melted with white wine and kirsch cherry brandy, served bubbling in a pot. You dip crusty bread, and if you drop your bread in the pot, Swiss tradition says you buy a round of drinks. After hiking the ridge trail (easy 1-2 hour loop from chairlift top station), head to Bergrestaurant Wasserngrat at 1,920m (+41 (0)33 744 96 22). Order the 'Fondue Moitié-Moitié' and ask for Fendant (Chasselas) wine to pair - the high acidity cuts through the cheese fat perfectly. Stir your bread in a figure-8 pattern (traditional). Watch for 'la religieuse' - the hardened cheese crust at the bottom of the pot, considered the reward for finishing.

   Hike the Ridge Where Ropes Protect You From 500m Drops

   The Wasserngrat ridge is narrow and exposed - there are steep drop-offs on both sides with some areas secured by ropes. The easy tourist loop stays on wide paths with minimal exposure. The Leiterli ridge trail is DIFFICULT - only for sure-footed, experienced hikers comfortable with heights and risk. You'll walk a razor-thin ridge with 500m drops, ropes to steady yourself, and panoramic insanity. From chairlift top, follow signs for 'Wasserngrat Rundweg' (easy loop) OR 'Leiterli' (difficult ridge). For easy: stay on marked wide trails, 1-2 hours, safe for families. For difficult: you MUST be experienced - narrow trail, exposure, secured sections with ropes. Check weather first - wind makes exposed ridge dangerous.

   🔄 BACKUP: If you're uncertain about difficulty, ask restaurant staff: 'Is the ridge trail safe today?' They know current conditions and will honestly tell you if it's too risky.
