   Homemade gunchang (grape wine) is made by Brokpa people who CLAIM descent from Alexander the Great's soldiers. DNA says southern India. They say ROME. The mystery IS the wine. At any Brokpa homestay in Dha or Hanu village, ask your host respectfully: "May I try your family's gunchang?" They'll be honored you asked with respect for their tradition.

   An oral history passed down for generations with a new verse added every 12 YEARS — no written language, just memory and song. At evening gatherings in your homestay, ask an elder: "Can you share a verse from the Song of History?" Listen for the rhythm. Each verse is a 12-year chapter of their existence, preserved only in living memory.

   Find the Green-Eyed Winemakers

   The Brokpa people in Darchiks village (higher elevation, better grape wine access) have green/blue eyes and fair features unlike ANY other Ladakhis. Only 6,000 remain in 4 villages. Look at their faces — science says one thing, their songs say another. You're meeting one of Earth's most unique communities who make wine at impossible altitude.

   Time Your Visit for Bonona Festival

   The Bonona harvest festival in September is when wine flows FREELY throughout Dha-Hanu Valley as the entire community gathers. Plan your trip for September and ask locals: "When is Bonona this year?" The date varies with the harvest, but when it happens, you'll witness wine culture at the world's most remote altitude.
