   Take the lifts to La Balme sector - the highest point in La Clusaz at 2,600m. From Col de Balme (2,477m), look east: Mont Blanc sits 35km away across the foothills, an uninterrupted wall of white. On clear winter days, the view is legendary. Ask lift operators 'Où est la meilleure vue sur le Mont Blanc?' if unsure which direction. Best light: morning for east-facing views. If visibility is poor, descend to Aiguille sector and return another day - don't waste the view on fog.

   Count the Historic Photos at Les Caves du Paccaly

   Head to Les Caves du Paccaly in the center of the village (the bar, not the cheese shop). Look for black-and-white photos on the walls showing La Clusaz's ski history since 1907 - France's first ski competition was held here. Find the image of 'Le Paret' - a snowbike invented locally in 1908 by Pierre-Noel Vittoz. Ask the bartender which photo is oldest. Pair with local charcuterie and a glass of Savoie wine. DJ on weekend evenings.

   Decode 'God's Narrow Place'

   The village name holds a medieval secret.

   Stand in the village center and look at the narrow valley between the mountains. 'La Clusaz' comes from Latin 'Clusa Locus Dei' - literally 'God's narrow place.' The 1902 road from Annecy through this gap opened the village to the world. Find the old church and look both directions: the Aravis mountains create a natural pass that isolated this valley for centuries. Ask any local if they know the Latin origin - most don't, and it makes for a good story.

   Taste Natural Savoie at Cave Vino

   Find Cave Vino in the village - a wine shop with 30% minimum natural wine selection. Ask for a taste of local Savoie natural wines - they specialize in 'tout sauf du banal' (anything but ordinary). Request Mondeuse if they have it - the indigenous red grape of Savoie, or an Altesse/Roussanne if you prefer white. Most wines €8-15 for tasting pours. Ask which producer is closest to La Clusaz. If Cave Vino is closed, 'Vins Quand Tu Veux' operates in summer (July-August).
